HOW TO FIND A SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Note that all members of the AASP are required to meet professional development and supervision requirements of the association which are in accordance with PACFA guidelines. All members are also bound by the AASP Code of Ethics.

In order to assist you to find a Somatic Psychotherapist, we have provided below a list of Associate and Clinical Members of the AASP who have agreed to have their names and contact details listed on this website.

Becoming fully accredited as a Clinical Member, after a minimum of 3 years training, is a long process that can take several years. It requires many hours of supervision and personal psychotherapy while working as a private practitioner. It also involves a comprehensive application and interview process. Associates have all completed the initial three year training programme and may also be quite experienced workers. They are required to be in regular supervision while seeing clients but as yet, have not totally fulfilled all of the requirements for clinical accreditation.

Fees and other arrangements will vary and are negotiated separately by each therapist. The range of fees may vary anywhere from $80 up to $120 per session for Clinical Members; though at times, you may be able to find a therapist that offers a few lower cost placements who has a low cost placement available.

Associate Members are likely to offer a lower range of fees and some may be willing to negotiate an even lower fee, making good psychotherapy more accessible.

Many members also have a range of other skills, training, qualifications and life experience that they bring to their work as psychotherapists.
